Now Testing: Import Multiple Artworks to Artsy in One Go

Adding new artworks to Artsy is about to get easier. Our new Bulk Import tool (currently in beta) allows you to import up to 100 works at once instead of adding them one by one—so you can move past the first steps and focus on the finishing touches. It’s designed to accelerate your workflow by skipping repetitive data entry and making it easier to manage larger updates in CMS.

Watch this quick video to learn how it works:

Beta Test: Help Us Improve

This beta version has limited functionality, and we’re rolling out improvements quickly. Your feedback will help us refine the tool and shape the full product experience to better fit your gallery’s needs. We’ll be adding more functionality, like photo uploads and additional artwork data fields, soon!

How to Join the Beta

  • Already have access? Start testing from the Artworks page in CMS.
  • Missing the Bulk Import button? Reach out to your Artsy Liaison for access.
  • Have feedback? Share your thoughts directly in CMS—look for this feedback button in the bottom right corner of the Artworks page (after you’ve tried the Bulk Import tool).

How It Works

1. Prepare your spreadsheet

  • Download our spreadsheet template here
  • Access the file from your Downloads. Add artwork details using any standard spreadsheet editor, such as Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets.
  • Enter required and optional artwork information: Artist Name, Artwork Title, Year, Price are required. You have the option to add Dimensions, too. We recommend adding dimensions to your spreadsheet, which are required to publish the work on Artsy. You can upload a maximum of 100 artworks at a time.

Artwork Field Details

  • Artist name (required)
    • Listed as First Name Last Name (e.g. “Andy Warhol”)
  • Artwork title (required)
  • Year (required)
    • The year the artwork was created. Use a hyphen for a date range (e.g. “1992 – 1998”)
  • Price (required)
    • Use numerical values only. We will populate the currency symbol based on your account settings
    • If your artwork has a decimal point to indicate cents, input it as a period and not comma (e.g., “99.99”)
  • Dimensions (optional)
    • Height, width, depth, or even diameter (if you have non-standard-sized work)
    • Use numerical values only. We will populate the metric based on your account settings

2. Export your file

  • Once you’ve prepared your spreadsheet, save your file if you’re using Excel, or export as a .XLSX or .CSV file if you’re using a spreadsheet editor like Google Sheets.

💡 .XLSX is the most reliable format for bulk uploads; we recommend using this option. Learn how to export to .XLSX in the Troubleshooting Tips section below.

3. Upload your file

  • Upload the spreadsheet using the new Bulk Import flow located in the Artworks page in CMS.
  • If there are any issues or errors with processing your file or artwork information, we’ll walk you through each step to ensure artwork details are imported.

4. Get ready to publish

  • Add the remaining artwork details to each work from the Artwork page. Be sure to review the imported details to ensure accuracy.
  • Publish your artworks. As always, we recommend spacing out your publishing to get more exposure in search and recommendations and trigger more collector alerts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bulk Import?

Bulk Import is a new tool that allows you to upload multiple artworks to Artsy at once, instead of adding them one by one. It’s in its early stages, which is why we are excited to gather partner feedback to shape the next steps of this tool.

What information can I import?

The beta version supports basic artwork details such as title, artist name, year, price, and dimensions. We’ll be adding more functionality, like photo uploads and additional artwork data fields, soon.

Troubleshooting Tips

Having trouble uploading your spreadsheet? Here’s how to ensure compatibility with our system:

Open our bulk import template (here) using any standard spreadsheet program. For optimal results, save your prepared spreadsheet as an .XLSX file when possible. Excel files are more reliable than the CSV format for Artsy’s Bulk Import. You don’t need to have Excel to save files in Excel formats.

  • To export from Numbers: Export as “Excel”. Learn how here.
  • To export from Excel: Save as “Microsoft”, and specify “xlsx” in file type. Learn how here.
  • To export from Google Sheets: Be sure you’re on the correct sheet, then navigate to File, Download, and select Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) to download:

What happens if my artist was matched with another artist of the same name?

Go to the individual artwork page in CMS after importing, and update the artist before publishing using the Artist field.

Some of my artworks failed to upload, but I don’t have time to fix the details now.

No problem! The Bulk Import tool lets you upload the artworks that are ready, then download a file showing which ones didn’t upload and why. You can fix the errors offline—like missing artist names or price—and re-upload when you’re ready:
